1950’s Fun

by Juliana on September 21, 2010

Half the fun in the selection of pieces is the imagination it takes to put it all together in a cohesive, charming way. I like to visualize the space a piece could live in and then give it the flair that would make it feel like home. This blonde wood, ranch oak table and chair set started as my inspiration. The retro dining set is paired with a matching buffet to complete the family. The top drawer of the buffet is sectioned perfectly for utensils and the middle of the base of the table has black metal trim reflecting the black metal trim of the extra-wide drawer pulls featured on the buffet.

Atop the table you’ll notice the funky, retro lamp. Blenko Glass Company was a leader in modern American glass through the 1950s and 1960s. This handblown, 1950’s Blenko lamp has the original finial. Although not the original lampshade this 1950’s double layer shade accents the hand blown glass immaculately. All the pieces displayed are sitting on an extra-large floor grate to pull the centerpiece together. The table and six chairs together are for sale for $695 . The matching blonde wood buffet is $495. The Blenko lamp base is (SOLD) and the shade is (SOLD). The metal grate is $125.

If you love this lamp we also have a second Blenko lamp in the store. This  lamp is also mid-century and includes the original Blenko logo and lamp shade. The lamp was purchased by Dr. Ingraham Miller of Newton in 1953. He was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital during the Korean War and purchased this lamp for this office. This lamp is for sale for $325.
